Whether you are a beginner, or an experienced rider looking to improve your skills or shooting for that major show, ECETC is the place to train.  You do not need to own a horse to take lessons, ECETC will match you up to a great one for lessons!

ECETC offers riding lessons to kids (over 6) and adults, from beginners to intermediate to advance riders for the Hunter, Jumper, Eventing, Dressage disciplines. ECETC Students are not required to attend shows, but many ECETC students; based on their level of training, compete at local and other shows along the mid-Atlantic area.

Training is provided for un-started, green and made horses for $250 per month in addition to boarding cost.  Whether it is a short-term refresher or an extensive training program, ECETC will customize a training program for your horse based on the needs, knowledge, background information and your goals for your horse.  Some horses are ready to go after 60 days; others as early as 30 days.  This varies based on the individual horse's progression.

Sharon's training of horses includes positive reinforcement and a quiet, gentle hand.  It is reflected in the tender, gentle nature of all her own horses and animals.  References for training is available upon request.  If you are thinking about buying  a young horse, but don't know how to get it started?  Sharon has gently "broke" many young horses and has corrected many behavior problems in horses of all ages with her tender touch.

ECETC students can be found participating in shows locally, including the East Coast Horse Show Association, Virginia Beach Horse Show Association and many others along the mid-Atlantic area.  All students are instructed on what is expected for participating in shows.  Lots of hard work and training goes into showing.

The ECETC students do a lot of the ground work involved in showing such as care, feeding, and grooming.  In time, as their riding skills improve, they participate in shows locally and along the mid-Atlantic area, Florida and Kentucky.

ECETC also holds and sponsors many shows, clinics and symposiums at the facilities which ECETC students participate in.  They have done very well in eventer, hunter, jumper, and dressage shows.

They continue to excel beyond the local shows and  "A' shows just cresting the horizon of their potential.  Expect to hear about many of their dreams of Olympic gold as it becomes their reality.

ECETC does not rent horses by the hour

Leasing

With leasing, you can ride a horse whether it be to practice what you learned in your lessons or to just enjoy riding.  It is a great opportunity to have a horse without the expense of purchasing or the veterinary and farrier expenses.  You just pay the monthly lease fee.  ECETC leasing fees are based on the number of days you wish to lease the horse and any lessons.  1 to 6 day leases are available.  While following information is a typical lease, all leases are subject to the horse's owner's specifications.

  • You may lease from 1 to 6 days a week

  • ECETC reserves the right to match up rider and horse that are being leased.

  • Some boarder's horses are also available for lease.

  • Any leasing of boarders' horses is between the boarder and lessee. ECETC is not responsible for the collection of leasing fees for boarders without prior arrangements.

Horseback Riding

We get many requests for trail riding and riding on the beach.  We do not provide for either at this time.  There are trails on the property for the use of our boarding clientele.

We can provide a riding lesson.  Please call in advance to confirm day and time.

What do I need to bring?

A riding helmet that meets ASTM standards and is SEI certified, heeled shoes, and breeches.

What do you require of me for lessons?

All lessons require the horse be groomed, hooves picked and tacked up prior to lessons.  Please allow time to have this done as it may interfere with the next person waiting for their lesson.  At the completion of the lesson, unless the instructed otherwise, all horses are to be cooled down, brushed down, hooves picked, tack put away and the horse turn out or put in stall (as instructed). All students new to riding will be instructed on these procedures during the first couple of lessons.

What if I don't own a horse?

ECETC has great horses and ponies available for riding lessons. You will be matched up to one that will suit your level of riding.

How old do you have to be to take lessons?

ECETC takes students as young as 6 and up.  Including those who wish they were 6 again!

What are the hours for training?

ECETC has a wonderful, well lighted, indoor riding arena, and weather and seasons are not a concern, hours for training and lessons are flexible.

Is there transportation to the shows?

Transportation to shows can be arranged depending on available space.  There is a charge based on mileage.

Will you show client's horses?

Yes, client's horses can be shown by ECETC staff.  This is typically prearranged through the trainer for a nominal fee.

How much are lessons just for my horse?

Training for horses is $250 per month plus board.

Are there any references?

One of the veterinarians that tends to the horses at ECETC brings his horses to ECETC for training.  References are available on request.  Click here for reference information.

I am going to be in the area for vacation.  Do you provide horses for trail riding?

Depending on your riding skill level, ECETC does lease horses on a short term basis. ECETC sits on almost 100 acres of land.  ECETC does not provide for organized trail rides at this time.

I would like to bring my horse with me while vacationing in Virginia Beach.  May I park my trailer at your facility?  Do you provide short term boarding and a place to ride?

Yes, we do provide stall space on a short term basis for the vacationer.  You must provide an up to date Coggins, worming and health record for each horse.  Stall space can be limited and dates may conflict with events, so it is suggested reservations be made well in advance.  Trailers may be parked at the facility as provided for in the short term boarding contract.

I would like to sign up for a show.  I am not sure what is required for each class?  Like how high are the jumps and what does it all mean?

ECETC's trainers will help you grow into each level of your training and will assist you when you sign up for your divisional classes.  Learning the different classes is all part of your training at ECETC.  We are creating a new page that will help you decipher what each class requirements are.
