What do you require of my horse prior to his arrival?
ECETC requires all horses boarded and
visiting at ECETC must have proof of a clear Coggins tests dated within the previous
12 months of arrival, health certificates, up to date
annual vaccinations and worming. While it is not required, it is
strongly recommended and preferred you have mortality and medical insurance
on your horse.
What do you require of my horse after his arrival?
All horses are required to have
spring and fall vaccinations along with an annual Coggins test; all of which
are at owners expense. A copy of the Coggins must be submitted for
your horse's file. All horses are to be shod every 5-6 weeks at owners
expense by a farrier of your choice. Please be sure to indicate the
farrier on your contract so your horse and farrier can be added to our
farrier scheduling.
What
is your feeding program and how much will my horse get fed?
Horses at ECETC are fed in the morning and again in the afternoon.
Feed
amounts vary from one horse to another, so there is no set amount. There
are automatic waterers in each stall and the 19 pastures.
Special accommodations may be made based on your horses needs.

This varies from one horse to
another. ECETC provides a variety of hays for the horses depending
on the horse's needs.
Is it possible for my horse to be turned out alone?
Special accommodations may be made
depending on circumstances.
Why do you require a
signed boarder's contract?
The boarder's contract is for the
safety of you and your horse as well as providing a clear understanding
of the policies at ECETC. There is also an area on it for emergency
contact information in the event we need to contact you or someone for
you. We strongly suggest you read your contract thoroughly before
signing.
My horse is on
supplements. How do I know my horse will get them?
ECETC loves SmartPaks for
supplements! You can have them delivered directly to ECETC.
Please be sure to indicate on your boarder's contract what supplements
your horse requires. There is an erase board on all stalls that will
indicate which supplements are to be fed to a given horse. It is your
responsibility to mark your supplements with your name and amount to be
given to your horse. ECETC staff will do its best to let you know
when your supply is running low, however, it is also your responsibility
to maintain supply.
Can I use my own farrier/vet?
Yes, may use your own farrier/vet.
We know how it is to have trusted your horses care to someone. Be
sure to list them on the boarding contract.
I am new to the area, can you recommend a farrier and a vet?
ECETC has a some great, well trusted vets and farriers that have been
taking care of all ECETC horses for years! Feel free to ask about them.
Do you have isolation and
transportation procedures for sick or injured horses?
ECETC has stalls available for

Equine Hospital in Leesburg, VA or NC State University College of
Veterinarian Medicine in Raleigh can be arranged. ECETC has long had
reliable vets that will come to the facility any time for emergencies.
Can I clean stalls for reduced board?
ECETC has a full time staff that
takes care of the facility, however, there is also a working student
program. The Working Student Program allows you to "work" while
learning about the equestrian world. These "Working Students" may
board their horses at a reduced rate while in the program. See the
employment
page for more information about the "Working Student Program."

Yes, there is a place designated for
horse trailer parking. Please let us know if you would like to assist
in trailering to shows and events.

ECETC boarders are welcome between
the hours of 8am and 8pm. Visitors to the barn are welcome between
9am and 4pm. These hours are subject to change during events.
Special arrangements may also be made.
Are you prepared for bad weather?
The advantage of having an insulated
indoor is we can ride year round! However, weather is a concern for
good and bad days, not just for riding days, but for the safety of all
ECETC animals. The new facilities were built out of steel
and can withstand some pretty
strong hurricanes and northeasters. All horses are tagged for their
safety prior to arrival of any severe storms. Please be sure your
"Notification" information is kept up to date.
Are you prepared for
emergencies? Such as fire or injuries?
Yes. The facilities are constructed out of steel and have a
sprinkler system. Our facilities sit
between two fire stations equipped with Fire fighters and EMS personnel,
both of which are approximately 9 miles away.

the premises everyday?
